{"id":201,"date":"2026-09-11T09:13:50","date_gmt":"2026-09-11T09:13:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tmis.edu.sg\/?post_type=programme&amp;p=201"},"modified":"2026-09-11T09:13:50","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T09:13:50","slug":"tmis-tourist-guide-training-programme","status":"publish","type":"programme","link":"https:\/\/test.tmis.edu.sg\/?programme=tmis-tourist-guide-training-programme","title":{"rendered":"TMIS Tourist Guide Training Programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Introduction<\/h3>\n<p>The TMIS Tourist Guide Training Programme is designed for aspiring learners looking to join the tourist guide community in Singapore.\u00a0 Divided into two modules, the TMIS TGTP will train learners in tour guiding skills and techniques; learners will also be provided with information about Singapore and how to present the information to tourists.<\/p>\n<p>TMIS conducts tourist guide training in its various iterations since the 1990s.\u00a0 Our trainers will be tapping on their decades of experience when sharing the tourism industry and the tourist guide profession.\u00a0 Our alumni are actively guiding in the local tourism industry with many going on to achieve national recognition.<\/p>\n<h3>Course Objectives<\/h3>\n<p>Learn from the experienced tourism professionals who are also licensed STB tourist guides through role-plays, activities and field trips. Learners joining the programme can expect lectures, discussions, self-study and practical performance to hone their skills in preparation for a successful career in the tourism industry.<\/p>\n<h3> Course Outlines<\/h3>\n<p>At the end of Module 1 (63 hours), the learner will demonstrate ability in the following areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Understanding the roles and responsibilities of a tourist guide<\/li>\n<li>Develop storytelling and public speaking skills<\/li>\n<li>Curating tours and development tour commentaries<\/li>\n<li>Understanding and observing tour and safety protocols when conducting tours<\/li>\n<li>Observing religious and cultural sensitivities when conducting tours<\/li>\n<li>Handling challenging and\/or unique tourists<\/li>\n<li>Responding to unexpected situations and preforming service recoveries<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the end of Module 2 (63 hours), the learners will demonstrate knowledge in the following areas<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pre-colonial and Colonial History<\/li>\n<li>Post-Independence History and Development of Singapore<\/li>\n<li>Culture, Faith, Attire and Cuisine of the Chinese, Malays, Indians and Minorities<\/li>\n<li>Basics of Geographic, Economic and Demographic Data of Singapore<\/li>\n<li>Heritage Highlights<\/li>\n<li>City Highlights<\/li>\n<li>Nature Based Attractions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All learners are required to successfully complete both modules before they are allowed to apply for a tourist guide license with the Singapore Tourism Board.<\/p>\n<h3> Duration<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"ul-default\">\n<li><strong>Total 129 hours (including assessments)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>4 months (Part-Time)<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Classroom Training : Two weekday evenings (6.45pm to 9.45pm) and one Saturday morning (9am to 1pm)<\/li>\n<li>Field Trips: Saturday (9am to 1pm) and (2pm to 6pm)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>2 months (Full-Time)<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Classroom Training and including Field Trips : Weekdays, 9am to 6pm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3> Mode of Instruction<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Mini lectures, field trips, role-plays and games<\/li>\n<li>Interactive practical activities for group and individual<\/li>\n<li>Independent learning sessions, mutual sharing and feedback<\/li>\n<li>Trainer-Student Ratio &#8211; 1:20<\/li>\n<li>Minimum class size 10, Maximum class size 20<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3> Certification<\/h3>\n<p>Upon successful completion of the programme, attaining minimum 75% attendance (90% attendance for student pass) and passing all assessments <span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">(written assessment, practical demonstration with oral questioning and online MCQ)<\/span>, participants will be awarded with a certificate by TMIS. Participants will be eligible to apply for the Tourist Guide License with Singapore Tourism Board.<\/p>\n<p><span data-teams=\"true\">For foreigners, please note that the Singapore Tourism Board will only issue a Tourist Guide Licence if the applicant holds a valid Employment Pass or Work Permit and is gainfully employed by a licensed travel agent as a tourist guide. The licence must be issued within one year from the date of passing the examination. If the application is not made within this one-year period, the applicant will no longer be eligible for licence issuance based on that assessment result.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Target Audience<\/h3>\n<p>Individuals who wish to become STB-licensed tourist guides<\/p>\n<h3>Entry Requirements<\/h3>\n<div>\n<div>Applicants must fulfil the following criteria:<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 be over 21 years of age<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 be medically fit<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 be highly proficient in the language you wish to guide in<\/div>\n<div>There are no minimum language or academic requirements.
